Poway was incorporated in 1980 in an effort by the town fathers to preserve its rural flavor. So Poway is independent from San Diego while Rancho Bernardo and the other communities of the Poway Unified School District are part of the City of San Diego. Poway has about 51,000 residents.

Poway Lake is an extensive recreational facility with fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking, and camping. Nature lovers and hikers flock to the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in Poway, a 700-acre natural habitat for rare plants and animals.

The South Poway Business Park is one of the largest and most successful commercial developments in the state. Over 300 businesses, established companies as well as start-ups, employ over 12,000 local people.

Another unique feature of Poway is Old Poway Park. Located at the corner of Midland and Temple Streets, this area has a railroad theme. There is a Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 8-Noon where you can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, eggs, honey, and more.
